3) Values
The Nine
Road To Resilience Values Deck
Margie Heiler, MS, MCC
Even though our values drive our decisions — how we behave, and, essentially, how we live life — we don’t realize just how important it is to be connected to our values. How critical are our values? Well, the last time you were frustrated with someone’s behavior — for example, a decision they made that affects you directly — is it because they or the decision stepped on one or more of your closely held values? Your values will then affect how you respond back. Once you’re able to recognize this, how you navigate these exchanges can determine how your moment, day, week, month — and really, life — goes.
This happens because a value can be defined as a principle of intrinsic worth. Therefore, being in alignment with one’s values has a positive impact on authenticity, integrity, decision making, relationships and satisfaction, just to name a few. Our shared or like values are also how we connect with each other, our family, co-workers and community. This is foundational to creating an extended pathway to success, regardless of what our definition of success is at that moment. Exploring your values, and identifying those that are most important to you will assist you in how you live your life at each moment. Honoring values provides direction to your next version of you!
