On Complaceny vs. Taking Risks
“The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it’s indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it’s indifference.”
– Elie Wiesel
On this Independence Day, I think about this powerful quote and the idea of what the world would be like if those first explorers to the new world decided to remain home. To take the road of indifference, to embrace complacency.
We are born to move forward, to take risks that will change us and our world forever. I’m not talking about jumping a motorcycle across a canyon, or gambling a paycheck on lottery tickets and casinos. A thoughtful, exciting and trusting step forward that God demands of us, to do that new thing, be that new person next for yourself, your family, your community, your world and most importantly, your faith. It will guide you to greatness. Happy Independence Day. Please thank and pray for all those who helped us get this far. And, of course, enjoy the bbq!
